MADHUMEHA

Madhumeha was created during the Rembrandt Residency, organised in collaboration with the Public Arts Trust of India and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in India. The series originates from my experience of living with Type 1 diabetes and an artistic research project rooted in India, where ancient Ayurvedic texts first described Madhumeha ("honey urine"), one of the earliest recorded accounts of diabetes. Immersed in the colours, architecture and rhythms of Jodhpur, the paintings weave together personal experience, historical research and the city's visual language to explore the universal realities of chronic illness, vulnerability, resilience and care.
